Offshore cable services 'boosting the economy'

Date: 11/7/2012

The UK economy is benefitting from increased investment in onshore and offshore wind provision, it has been claimed.

Adam Bell, communications manager at RenewableUK - the trade and professional body for wind and marine renewables industries in the UK, formed in 1978 and now serving more than 650 members - noted this boost comes at a time when traditional investment is on the slide.

Cables transporting energy to and from these facilities are therefore playing an important role in delivering jobs and income to the UK.

Mr Bell stated: "To ensure this keeps coming, any changes by the government to support for low-carbon energy must be based on evidence of its actual costs, rather than political calculation."

The comments come in response to recent news revealing wind power companies are considering taking the government to court due to a disagreement over subsidies, as the energy department has suggested this could be reduced by ten per cent after it carried out a number of technical studies.
