New clinical research centre to make use of multiwire cable assemblies?

Date: 21/9/2011

Multiwire cable assemblies could be among the technology used at a new healthcare-based facility opened up in Bristol.

The products - used in the medical industry - may feature heavily at the Clinical Research and Imaging Centre (CRICBristol) on St Michael's Hill as it is hoped the development will lead to greater progress and understanding in the field.

Professor Lord Robert Winston officially opened the building on September 19th and met with researchers from the University of Bristol and University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust to speak about the areas of research to be undertaken.

He was later given a tour of the centre before unveiling a commemorative plaque to mark the opening.

Professor Lord Winston said it was "very important" to witness such a collaboration between the NHS and the University.

"Clinical research is a vital area of medicine and this new state-of-the-art centre will open up very exciting areas of research. I am delighted to officially open CRICBristol," he added.

The state-of-the-art facility has cost £6.6 million to construct and multiwire cable assemblies may play a role in helping people in Bristol and the south-west of England benefit from the research to be carried out there.

Included in the centre is a 3Tesla MRI scanner, a Siemens Magnetom Skyra and four clinical investigation suites, among other features.

Dr Chiara Bucciarelli-Ducci, co-director of CRICBristol and consultant cardiologist at the British Hart Institute, commented: "It is an honour to have Professor Lord Winston opening our centre. With his knowledge and enthusiasm for science and research he has managed to engage the general public's interest."

Teams set to make use of the new facility include those studying brain injuries, cardiac imaging, cardiac function and sleep disorders in adults and children.

Professor Lord Winston has around 300 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals to his name and is a professor of science and society and emeritus professor of fertility studies at Imperial College.

Standard coaxial and multiwire Cable Assemblies are just part of Quadrant's extensive range of cable assembly and cable terminating abilities.
