Outdoor antennas plan for Hereford Cathedral

Date: 3/1/2012

Outdoor antennas are to be fitted on the tower at Hereford Cathedral in an effort to improve internet coverage in Herefordshire.

Web provider allpay Broadband hopes the move will increase its reach to more rural areas across the county.

By placing the antennas on top of the place of worship, a five-mile line of sight radius will be opened up, enabling villages to the north of Hereford to benefit from the transmission for the first time.

Tony Killeen, owner of allpay Limited - formerly known as Financial Collection Services - said Hereford Cathedral has been very helpful in enabling the plan to come to fruition.

The industry figure observed: "We've taken great care to ensure that the modern technology does not affect the beauty of the cathedral's architecture with each antenna unit colour coded to the tower louvers."

Residents across the region had voiced their need for greater broadband coverage in more remote areas, he added.

Quadrant Connections offer a complete range of base-station antennas for mobile communication networks.
