BT launches new superfast Infinity broadband cables

Date: 17/11/2011

BT has announced it is offering a new ultra-fast service thanks to new broadband cables that are capable of delivering rapid connectivity and download speeds.

The Infinity Option 3 network is based on fibre-optic lines that run right into individual homes facilitating the telecoms giant's highest consumer connection times.

Users will be able to download at speeds of as much as 100Mbps and upload material to the web at up to 15Mbps, with BT being the only major internet service provider offering this service at present.

Managing director of BT's consumer division John Petter said: "We are seeing very encouraging take-up of our fibre-based broadband and we now have more than 300,000 customers."

Last month, BT announced Derry is the first city in the UK to have an entirely fibre-optic broadband network.

The telecoms company completed its work in time for the city to become the official UK City of Culture for 2013.
