What started off as a personal project led to three years devotion to visiting more than 80 leading Zoological Gardens in Europe to gain information on them and how they are managed.
Anthony Sheridan, ex owner and MD of Quadrant Connections Ltd., retired from the electronics industry in late 2007. A lifelong wildlife enthusiast, Anthony started in early 2008, after noticing a niche in the gathered information about zoos around the continent, and by May the project had become full time involving up to 50 hours a week.
Having visited all the zoos, analysing the statistics and interviewing the zoo directors, Anthony had amassed a huge range of information.
The book, titled What Zoos Can Do - Europe's Leading Zoological Gardens 2010-2020, covers
topics ranging from conservation, education and the outlook for 2020 including fascinating lists, facts and figures ranking each zoo.
The book is available from Beaver Travel, Watling Street, Radlett and retailing at £24.95. It is also available on-line from Amazon. All proceeds will go to a conservation project in Nam Nung Reserve, Vietnam to protect yellow-cheeked crested gibbons.
A must buy book, and ideal Christmas present, for all interested in zoos and wildlife enthusiasts.
